Getting to know the CPT requirements
· Eligibility criteria
Not every student is eligible to apply for CPT. First of all, you must be an international student with legal F-1 status. In addition, you must have been lawfully enrolled in a US college or university full-time for at least one academic year.
Applicants must also have a job offer from an employer directly related to their field of study. For instance, if you are currently enrolled in an MBA program, your job must be focused on finance, marketing, business administration, or a similar industry.
· Documentation
Your CPT application will not be accepted until you’ve prepared all the necessary documents. You will need three papers: the CPT application form, your Offer Letter, and your Form I-20.
You may obtain a new Form I-20 from your designated school official (DSO) after they have authorized your application. Meanwhile, the Offer Letter must come from your employer.
· Detailed training description
You cannot apply for CPT unless your employer has officially offered you a training opportunity. A Detailed Training Description document must be submitted, and it should include your job title, specific tasks, and company address.
Moreover, the document must specify the number of hours of work you are required to complete each week and the start and end dates of your CPT employment.
