MBA, Master of Business Administration

Westcliff University’s Master of Business Administration program seeks to develop persons who can function successfully in upper middle management and top management positions. The emphasis is on strategic management concepts and principles.

Offers Bachelor of Arts in Education (BAEd), Master of Arts in Teaching English as a Second Language (MA TESOL, Eligible for Day 1 CPT), language training programs, and certificate programs.

The Western State College of Law

Established in 1966, became the fourth college of Westcliff University in August 2019 after the merger.

It offers Juris Doctor Degree (JD) and certificate programs.

| 2.Pros and Cons

✅ Pros:

  • There are plenty of scholarships available, making it a cost-effective option.

  • Six enrollment windows each year.

  • The main campus is in a prime location in Irvine, California, offering convenience and safety.

  • Seven majors that support Day 1 CPT employment opportunities, including a Doctoral program, DBA.

  • Has a Career Service department that helps students find full-time/part-time job opportunities.

  • After every three semesters, students are allowed to take a break for one semester (during the break semester, students only need to register for one credit of the CPT course and can continue to work).

  • The school has experience with H1B RFE and student cases, including Day 1 CPT.

  • The minimum onsite frequency is only one day onsite per semester.

  • Initial F1 (applying outside of the US) students are also eligible for Day 1 CPT.

  • Partial credits can be transferred to new programs (up to 6 credits).

⚠️ Cons:

  • For students who have not obtained a graduate degree in the US, they may NOT be eligible to participate in the H1B *Advanced Degree Lottery after graduating from Westcliff

  • According to a few students, some courses have a heavy workload. The average workload at Westcliff is about 3-4 hours per week. It’s worth noting that we have developed a Course Evaluation/Guide System to help students avoid "tough" professors.

| 3.Day 1 CPT Programs

The school allows students to obtain CPT work authorization on the first day of school and will send out a CPT renewal notification at the end of each semester. You can use CPT for 365 days uninterrupted.

Doctor of Business Administration (DBA)

The DBA program requires 60 credit hours, including 48 credit hours for core courses and 12 credit hours for concentration courses.

If the applicant has already completed Managerial Economics, Managerial Accounting, and Financial Management in a master's program, these three courses can be waived.

DBA program can be completed within a time frame of 1.5 to 4 years, up to how you want to pace it. Students can apply for a semester break (CPT eligible), every 3 semesters they’ve completed in a row.

* If the applicants have used OPT during their master's program, selected a STEM concentration for their doctoral program, and worked full-time for less than one year using CPT, they are eligible to apply for OPT and OPT extension again (total of 3 years).

Using the Business Intelligence and Data Analytics DBA track as an example, if a student completes the four courses below, their major qualifies as STEM. They can apply for the 24-month OPT Extension.

| 4.Onsite Frequency

Westcliff University operates on a tri-semester system: Fall, Spring, and Summer. Each semester lasts for four months and is divided into two sessions.

Courses at Westcliff are offered in a hybrid format, with two courses (3 credits each) per semester, totaling 6 credits (plus an additional credit for CPT). Its attendance requirements meet the F-1 visa regulations set by the U.S. immigration agency.

Onsite courses are mandatory for students, and non-attendance may result in the automatic loss of F-1 status.

It is important to maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 throughout the academic program, as failure to do so may result in the inability to graduate and the termination of Fulltime CPT opportunities.

  • If the student resides within 50 miles of the school, they are required to attend school onsite once a week in a weekly format. The classes are held on a weekday from 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.

  • If the student resides more than 50 miles from the school, they are required to attend school onsite once a semester in a professional format. The classes are held on Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM.

*The student's residence address is determined by documents such as a leasing agreement, utility bill, rental insurance or car insurance bill, bank statement, etc.

*Tips: For students living in the Bay Area or other states, it is recommended to apply for programs at the main campus if there are direct flights to John Wayne Airport in Irvine. The main campus is only 2 miles from the airport, with daily direct flights from cities such as Dallas, San Francisco, and Seattle.

*There are 6 chances to apply for scholarships annually. A student can apply for multiple types of scholarships. If a student has been accepted for a scholarship, it will be distributed as 6 payments during the school year (3 payments for distinguished scholarships). Once the scholarship has been fully distributed, students are allowed to re-apply for the same scholarship.

The graduate/doctoral programs at Westcliff University run on trimesters per academic year, each semester consisting of 2 sessions, for a total of 6 sessions per year, and students can apply for admission to any session.

The general application deadline is 1.5 months before the start of each session (for initial F1 students, the application deadline is 3-4 months before the start of the session).

Still, we recommend that students submit applications as early as possible to allow for sufficient time for SEVIS transfer and CPT application and to reduce the gap between OPT and CPT.
