| About the School
Ottawa University was founded in 1865 and has a rich history and heritage.
Throughout its 150+ years, the University has endeavored to educate its students, many from underserved student populations, for lifetimes of enlightened faith, exemplary service, inspired leadership, and personal significance.
This tradition began with the Ottawa Indian tribe. The University's roots can be found in the work of Baptist missionaries in collaboration with the Tribe, then located on the banks of the Marais des Cygnes ("river of swans") in what would become the town of Ottawa, Kansas, located approximately 40 miles southwest of Kansas City.
Reverend Jotham Meeker and his wife, Eleanor, labored ceaselessly to improve the lives of Ottawa, serving as ministers, nurses and doctors, business agents, marriage counselors, teachers, and of course, spiritual counselors.
Their seminal work, the prophetic vision of tribal leaders, and the engagement of others such as John Tecumseh (Tauy) Jones led to an eventual agreement between the Kansas Baptist denomination and the Ottawa Tribe to form a school for the benefit of the children of the Ottawa.

| Day-1 CPT Policies
The program adopts a hybrid mode of online and offline teaching. Two courses are required to be completed each semester, one online course in which students need to attend classes online every week, usually from 6 pm to 8 pm. The other course is an on-site course that requires students to attend three days of onsite classes at the beginning and end of the semester (Friday to Sunday).
The university specifies that CPT is a required component of the EMBA and DBA programs and that students must participate in the CPT program to graduate properly.
CPT is usually issued from the first day of class and can be worked 365 days per year without a gap.
The school's CPT programs have strict requirements for on-site attendance, and unexcused absences may fail to complete the course correctly and affect student status in the United States.
Ottawa University requires students to renew their CPT every year
* Starting March 2023, Ottawa University will no longer collect a $250 I-20 deposit. The I-20 form will be directly emailed to students upon admission, making the application process smoother!
** Many other Central or Western CPT schools require monthly or weekly attendance at on-site classes. In comparison, Ottawa University's CPT programs offer significant savings in commuting time and transportation costs.
