What Exactly is Westcliff’s “Engage Week”?

This article was originally written by Westcliff current student R.

Have you heard of Engage Week at Westcliff University in California?

Even if you're a new student or even a current student, you might not be aware of what it is or what it requires. As a current MBA student at Westcliff, I'd like to share with you what Engage Week is, what you need to know, and what happens if you miss it.

According to the school's official website:

Engage Week is a course system designed for graduate and doctoral students that have been in place for some time now. It is an immersive workshop experience where students collaborate to master key coursework knowledge and skills. The workshop is held both online and onsite and is designed to assist with coursework.

One important thing to note is that attending an Engage Week onsite workshop satisfies any onsite learning requirement you may have based on your individual circumstance. For example, international students with an onsite learning requirement may attend one Engage Week workshop onsite per semester to satisfy this requirement. Engage Week covers all international students at Westcliff University, whether they are in the Weekly or Professional format, and they only need to come to campus once per semester.

At the beginning of each semester, Westcliff University will send an email to students with information about the selected Engage Week workshop topics and attendance requirements. If you haven't received this email, make sure to ask your student advisor about it.

**Due to the pandemic, Engage Week has replaced onsite classes for both the Weekly Format and Professional Format students, and they only need to come to campus once per semester.

At the semester start, Westcliff will send an email to introduce the Engage Week workshop topic and attendance requirement:

If you do not receive this email, make sure to ask your student advisor.

Is Engage Week Onsite or Online?

Currently, due to the impact of the pandemic, Engage Week is used instead of on-site classes. Weekly Format and Professional Format students only need to come to campus once per semester.

  • If your address is within 50 miles of the school, you are in the Weekly Format, and if it is outside 50 miles, you are in the Professional Format

All Westcliff University graduate programs are now updated to an 8-week session system. This means that each semester is divided into two sessions of eight weeks each, with only one class per session. This allows you to focus on one course at a time, reducing academic pressure.

Engage Week workshops usually offer both online and on-site options, and you need to follow the school's arrangements to attend either in person or online. You must attend on-site once per semester and plan accordingly to avoid conflicts.

In summary, there are 2 Engage Weeks per semester, one of which requires your attendance on campus, and the other can be attended remotely online. Engage Week usually takes place in the fourth week of each session (the fourth and twelfth week of each semester), with workshop times consistent with your class schedule on Saturdays from 9 AM to 3 PM or 6:30 PM to 8:30 PM.
