Hybrid Format & On-Site Requirement

Onsite Policy:

Lamar University requires international student attend onsite residency class bi-monthly.

  • One full weekend (Friday evening, Saturday all day, Sunday morning) during a 8-week term leading to a total of 12 hours of on-site contact per hybrid course (25% of total contact hours)


Vacation Policy:

International students at Lamar University can take term breaks.

  • Based on Lamar University’s academic schedule, students typically have two months of summer break. CPT may still be used during this break period.
  • Students can apply for CPT work authorization during the vacation period.

 

CPT Policy

Lamar University adheres to USCIS regulations to authorize CPT for international students.

Eligibility for CPT from Program Start

✅ Current OPT and F1 students may obtain CPT Authorization from Day 1 of the program.

❌ Oversea applicants cannot obtain CPT Authorization from Day 1 of the program.

❌ Change of Status (to F1 Status) applicants cannot obtain CPT Authorization from Day 1 of the program.

 

“Day 1 CPT Universities” isn’t an official term. It refers to schools that may allow CPT from the first semester, but approval isn’t guaranteed. CPT typically takes 5–15 business days after complete documents are submitted.

CPT authorization needs to be renewed every term.

CPT is not required for graduation.

  • Initial F-1 Students: Not eligible for Day 1 CPT; must remain in the U.S. long enough to obtain a Social Security Number.
  • Change of Status (CoS) Students: Not eligible for Day 1 CPT;
  • Reinstatement Students: Not eligible for Day 1 CPT. 
  • CPT Duration Limit: Students may use CPT for a maximum of three semesters (up to 9 credit hours total).

Students may enroll through their student account under the Academic Partnership payment plan, where payment amounts and due dates are provided. A $50 down payment is required to enroll in the plan, along with a $20 installment fee. Payments are scheduled according to dates set by the Cashier’s Office, and reminders will be sent to the student’s Lamar University email address prior to each due date. No paper bills are issued. Incomplete applications will not be processed. A late payment fee of $15 will be charged for each missed installment.
