How to get CPT approval in the US
· Find an accredited college
Take note: not all schools in the US offer CPT programs. You must find a college or university that accepts CPT students, whether it be Day 1 CPT or regular CPT.
Thankfully, this doesn’t mean that you only have a few schools to choose from. There are several options across various states, including Westcliff University in California, Monroe College in New York, New England College in New Hampshire, and Trine University in Arizona.
· Make sure you’re eligible.
Do you have legal F-1 status? Have you been enrolled full-time in a US college or university for at least one academic year? Great news—you’re eligible for the CPT program. These requirements can be quite strict, but they ensure that your status in the country is lawful.
In addition to these criteria, you must first obtain a job offer from a company directly related to your field of study.
· Prepare the requirements early.
It’s best to prepare the documentation for your CPT application as soon as possible to avoid potential delays. First, make sure to secure an Offer Letter from your employer, which details your job title and description, length of employment, and the number of working hours you are expected to complete each week.
Meanwhile, you may obtain your new Form I-20 after your designated school official (DSO) has approved your application and verified your information.
