Today, we’re excited to introduce a project that has been in the works for over a year: The White Paper for International Students. This comprehensive knowledge base is built by former international students, for international students like you, addressing every challenge and question you might encounter after arriving in the U.S. The best part? It’s completely free.
As international students ourselves, we’ve faced countless challenges, made mistakes, and stumbled through the process of surviving—and thriving—in this foreign land. Looking back, we often wish someone had guided us through critical questions like:
We remember the anxiety of our first visa interviews—hands trembling, stomach churning—feeling like we had done nothing wrong but still unsure if we would pass the "check". We wished we had someone to guide us, someone to tell us what questions to expect, how officers make their decisions, and how to present ourselves with confidence.
We remember the first time trying to rent an apartment, only to discover the mysterious concept of a "credit score." Despite being honest, hardworking students, we found that we apparently didn’t have the kind of "credit" this country valued, leaving us feeling lost and unprepared.
We remember the heartbreak of longing to visit family back home while on OPT, especially during COVID. Torn between wanting to see our loved ones and the fear of being stopped at the border upon returning, we wrestled with uncertainty—unsure of the rights we had or the opportunities we deserved.
We remember the gut-wrenching moment of being laid off for the first time in our lives, staring down the end of our H1B grace period feeling like our American dream was slipping away. There were nights of doubt, moments of wanting to surrender and go home. But with the help of kind strangers, wise advice from immigration lawyers, and support from fellow international students, we found a way forward.
Over the years of living in the U.S., we’ve made mistakes, taken wrong steps, and collected regrets. But we’ve also been lifted by countless small moments of kindness—a warm smile, a piece of advice, an unexpected helping hand. We stand here today not just because of our own resilience, but because of the generosity, wisdom, and compassion of those who came before us.
This is why we feel compelled to give back—to honor the kindness we received and to help those who come after us, just as others once did for us.
To the international community that continues to support, inspire, and empower, this is our way of saying thank you. And to those who are just beginning their journey, know that you are not alone. We are here, ready to walk alongside you.
This knowledge base is designed to provide the answers we once sought, not just based on our personal experiences but through extensive research and collaboration. Over the past 5 years, we’ve worked with immigration lawyers, school officials, former immigration officers, student ambassadors, professional accountants, and international students who became entrepreneurs to build a robust network and resource. This first edition of the White Paper covers a wide range of topics, including:
The White Paper isn’t just a guide—it’s a community-driven resource created to help others avoid the same pitfalls we encountered. Our mission is to empower international students with the knowledge and tools they need to succeed.
